But, as I warned, this is not one of those liquor and heartbreak songs, “Tears and Whiskey” is actually advocating the exact opposite. Embrace life, it reminds us, make the most of your time, fill your hours with heart and humour, fun and frivolity, love and friendship. A simple message, but one that is easily forgotten as we get wrapped up in the complexities of modern life, as we get wrapped up in ourselves.

Roz Prickel is always a delight. (We’ve had  her in studio twice!) Her new video for Tears & Whiskey captures her voice but also her down to earth vibe. It’s like a glimpse into someone’s inner world, that thankfully looks a little it like our worlds at time, which means we’re all OK – even if we have drunk whiskey out of a sippy cup.

Using different cities and what they’re most known for to tell the story of the depth of connection between these two souls needs to be heard to truly be felt and understood. The simple combination of Prickel’s sincerity-drenched vocals and her acoustic guitar result in a very sweet and simple love song. All that’s needed now is to press play again.

She writes the music that I’d love to write – passionate and not afraid to go dark or mean. Sparkliest guest ever award! She is a prolific writer. She uses nature and fairytales in her music to talk about difficult subjects. She also uses metaphors and allegory – like basing a song on the Queen of Spades in the old Hearts card game. It’s very powerful.

The girl at the Rock Shows

Although I found her overall style to be super playful and fun, the talent of this local songstress is nothing to laugh at. Her voice is smooth, and she can hit notes that will send chills up your spine, but simultaneously, there’s something accessible about it.
